Goal: To spread awareness about the negative effects of bottled water in hopes of transitioning communities to tap water and reusable bottles.

What is this? It is part of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, a group of areas within the North Pacific Ocean where trash collects from the natural current and wind patterns. The trash within the Garbage Patch is all completely man-made and could have been prevented. The picture above shows mainly plastic bottles that have ended up there.

Could one of these be yours?

Tapped is a documentary that aired in 2009 examining the impact bottled water has on our health, our environment, and our pockets.

  • About

Hi! I am Elissa, and I am a student who simply wants to make a positive difference in the world. As a junior I took AP Environmental Science and absolutely loved it! After learning about the impact of humans on the environment and other ecosystems, I have decided to do something about it. My short-term goal is to make my school bottled water free and my long-term goal is to help people realize on their own that tap water and reusable bottles are the way to go!

  • Why is it Bad...

Bottled water has many different impacts on our daily life!

    broken image

    The Environment...

It takes a plastic bottle anywhere from 450-1,000 years to completely decompose. (http://www.postconsumers.com/education/how-long-does-it-take-a-plastic-bottle-to-biodegrade/)

"It takes over 1.5 million barrels of oil to meet the demand of U.S. water bottle manufacturing. "(https://thewaterproject.org/bottled-water/bottled_water_wasteful)

    broken image

    Our Health...

"The ten brands that we tested contained everything from radioactive materials to arsenic and industrial solvents, chemicals that leach out of the plastic itself." (Tapped the Movie)

"The federal government requires far more rigorous and frequent safety testing and monitoring of municipal drinking water than of bottled water."

    broken image

    The Economy...

Consumers pay 10,000 times more money for bottled water than for tap. That is like buying a $10,000 sandwich! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Se12y9hSOM0)

    Social Justice...

“It is easier for the typical American in Beverly Hills or Baltimore to get a drink of safe, pure, refreshing Fiji water than it is for most people in Fiji.”
